Nicolas Altstaedt is one of the most celebrated artists of the younger generation, and the successor to Gidon Kremer as director of the Lockenhaus Festival. Above all, he is one of the most creative and independent of musicians. He never ceases to search for new paths, and one has the impression that he finds his instrument anew, or re-invents it, for each new recording.

Nicolas Altstaedt presents Johann Sebastian Bach's gamba sonatas on his fifth Genuin CD together with the fabulous harpsichordist Jonathan Cohen. And when one hears these inspired, resilient, lived-through sounds, one forgets all the titles, prizes and whatever else one has read and simply concentrates on the music of this youthful Leipzig old master.
