About

This outstanding CD brings together two of the greatest performances in 1958/9 by the legendary Russian violin virtuoso Leonid Kogan (1924-1982), considered by many to have been the equal of his fellow-countryman David Oistrach.

Both performances were originally recorded in the West, the Brahms Concerto in London by the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Kyril Kondrashin, and the Khachaturian Concerto in Boston, with Pierre Monteux conducting the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

The recorded sound in both instances is exceptionally fine but it is the quality of the performances which will impress all who hear them - the intensity and majesty of Kogan's playing, its sensitivity and magisterial sense of line - plus many other fine musical attributes - place these performances at the very forefront of recordings of either work.

A wholly exceptional record.
