About

A five-volume series of Double-CD releases from Deutsche Grammophon dedicated to the pioneer of “classical crossover” and the grandfather of orchestral pops.

Over 50 years and 50 million recordings, Arthur Fiedler directed the Boston Pops to become history’s most recorded conductor. Amongst the finest recordings were 27 LPs made in the final decade of Fiedler’s life – the 1970s – for Deutsche Grammophon, Polydor and Decca.

The Fiedler Legacy series revitalizes these extraordinary recordings through five Double CD sets. Every set includes tracks previously not released anywhere on CD. The series contains over 150 pieces of music from composers as diverse as Bach, Bernstein and Shostakovich to Bacharach, McCartney and Lloyd-Webber.

Each set is a thematic compilation based upon Fiedler’s unique ‘Pops’ formula – from American music and symphonic spectaculars to the Broadway musical and sumptuous orchestrations of popular music. With entertaining programs, each volume will appeal to fans of the conductor and the music alike.

The splendid acoustics of Symphony Hall Boston were captured by some of the best recording engineers of the era – and the original master tapes are reprocessed in stunning sound. Every set includes detailed liner notes showcasing Fiedler’s life and career as well as the music.

Fiedler Legacy – Volume Three: Evening at Pops

Through 'Evening at Pops' programs on television, radio and recordings, Arthur Fiedler reached an unprecedented classical music audience. This set includes some of the most often heard works from these programs – from waltzes and dances to classics for children as well as the Boston Pops first “gold” record – Jalousie.

Fiedler recordings previously unreleased on CD include: a series of waltzes and polkas by Johann Strauss originally issued on DG, Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel “Dream Pantomime” as well as a live “Evening at Pops” concert performance of “Tubby the Tuba”.
