Reviews

Ian Bostridge proves an ideal interpreter of Britten's three often taxing orchestral song-cycles, and here his light, clear tenor makes him an excellent successor to Peter Pears, for whom they were all written. Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic are persuaded to give totally committed performances of music outside their usual repertoire. With Radek Baborak playing the horn obbligato with wonderful sophistication in the Serenade, the clarity in each of these masterly works is enhanced, with Bostridge's tone at its purest in whatever register.
