About

The great Russian soprano Galina Vishnevskaya celebrated her 80th birthday in October 2006 and to mark the occasion, EMI Classics re-released this 3CD set (originally 5 LPs) of Russian songs and arias that she recorded in the 1970s with her husband, the legendary cellist Mstislav Rostropovich. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2005.

Having enjoyed a long career in which she sang the great soprano roles in all of the major opera houses of the world, Vishnevskaya has since devoted time to many other projects, including various charitable works, notably with her husband in the Vishnevskaya-Rostropovich Foundation on behalf of children, and also a foundation for retired artists of the Bolshoi opera.

This 3CD set is now at budget-price for the first-time and texts and translations are available for download at www.emiclassics.com
