About

Ernest Ansermet conducted the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande for over 50 years. Together they weathered several storms and the conductor relied on the Radio Suisse Romande both for its logistical and financial support as well as for the influence it afforded by recording and broadcasting all concerts.

The War Requiem was recorded on the 26th April 1967 and it is this passionate version that has been chosen for this CD. Even though Ansermet was a great fan of the English composer, he was, however, never able to record the works of Britten for the simple reason that they were both contracted to Decca!

This edition is therefore particularly precious, all the more so because of the beautiful version of Illuminations with Suzanne Danco, Ernest Ansermet’s favourite singer.

Contents:
- Britten: War Requiem (Recorded 1967)
- Britten: Les Illuminations (Recorded 1953)
- Berg: Seven Early Songs (Recorded 1959)
