About

Reflections, aphorisms, exercises in style, work notes, harmonic experiments, tone explorations. This is the world premiere recording of Giacinto Scelsi’s Preludes for solo piano, an early work in which the composer, through harmonic experiment and tonal exploration, is trying out different styles of composition.

The music reveals to us a period of his creative activity still little known or explored. Assembled in four series, the Preludes are still to this day largely unpublished and are the object of recently renewed research. The work of rearranging, listing and cataloguing his music, being undertaken by the Isabella Scelsi Foundatio,n nevertheless makes it possible to start to shed light on these early works, and this recording is one of the first tangible results of this research. Part of the material was re-assembled and further material has been recovered so that today we are able to present the Preludes in something like their entirety.

Alessandra Ammara has drawn the attention of the musical world since achieving brilliant results in some of the more important international piano competitions. She has performed all over Europe and has collaborated with many great artists, incuding Alban Gerhardt, Roberto Prosseda, the Sine Nomine Quartet and the Takacs Quartet.
