About

DG releases the first comprehensive video portrait of the cult artist Friedrich Gulda (1930-2000) on DVD. This is a presentation of the multi-faceted Gulda with a portrait feature which shows a fascinating close-up of one the of the 20th century’s greatest pianists.

The DVD includes Gulda playing core classical repertoire like Bach and Debussy, as well as arrangements and own compositions (classical and jazz). All material on the DVD has not yet been available on any format (it was only broadcasted).

Play every note as if your life depended on it – no matter whether it’s the classics or jazz!” – Friedrich Gulda

Here is a comprehensive portrait of the unique Friedrich Gulda – a classical pianist who was celebrated for his Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven; and a jazz pianist who collaborated with Chick Corea, Cecil Taylor, Herbie Hancock, Joe Zawinul and others. This programme, narrated by Gulda and the late Ulrich Mühe (The Lives of Others), also contains rare interview and concert footage.

One of the few artists with a solid reputation in both classical and jazz piano… dazzling technique” (Time).
