More Details on Choregraphie - Music for Louis XIV’s dancing masters

Raoul-Auger Feuillet's Chorégraphie (Paris 1700) changed ballet history forever with its pioneering use of dance notation.

Virtuoso harpist Andrew Lawrence-King performs music by Lully and Campra in solo settings by d'Anglebert, chosen by Feuillet to represent the noble style of French dance at the court of the 'Sun King'. Andrew Lawrence-King is recognised as one of the world's leading performers of early music. A creative and inspiring conductor who directs from the continuo, he has led baroque operas and oratorios at La Scala, Milan; Sydney Opera House; Casals Hall, Tokyo; Berlin Philharmonie; Vienna Konzerthaus; New York's Carnegie Hall and Mexico City's Palacio de Bellas Artes. Andrew was born in Guernsey and after studying at Cambridge and the London Early Music Centre, he rapidly established himself as a versatile continuo-player (on harp, keyboards, psaltery, percussion, guitar etc.) with Europe's foremost specialist ensembles and joined Jordi Savall's Hespérion XX as harp soloist. In 1994 he formed his own ensemble, The Harp Consort, with whom he has won Gramophone and Edison Awards for his recordings.

For harmonia mundi usa, Andrew Lawrence-King has made several highly acclaimed recordings, including Missa Mexicana: festive polyphony and popular dances from 17th-century Puebla; Miracles of Notre Dame: Poems in praise of the Virgin set by Gautier de Coincy (1177-1236) to medieval popular songs; and El arte de fantasia: Romances, fantasies & dances from the Spanish Golden Age. He has collaborated with baritone Paul Hillier on French Troubadour Songs and Bitter Ballads: Ancient and modern poetry set to medieval melodies. This is his first solo recording for the label.
