About

Wonderfully upbeat musical comedy by Shostakovich!

Cherry Town (Cheryomushki) - is a delightful musical comedy written in 1959 and set in the suburbs of Moscow, where young couples find dream homes provided by the state.

This original 1963 soviet film produced by 'Lenfilms' is a fascinating glimpse into the world of the Soviet Union. With all the colour and charm of a Hollywood musical, the film features a wonderful studio soundtrack and irresistible song and dance sequences.

A DVD which will appeal as much to lovers of musicals as to those interested in this remarkable Russian composer.

Bonus features include a Shostakovich Chronology and extracts from two complementary Decca DVDs - Shostakovich's Katerina Izmailova (the reworking of his opera Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District), and the Shostakovich Against Stalin documentary.

First ever release on any home cinema format.
