About

Coro is delighted to announce the launch of a brand new series of discs to the label. The first disc of the new Acoustic World series comes from Brazil.

The world knows Brazil for many things: the biggest carnival in the world and the best football team in the world to name just two. But of equal importance to the country’s heartbeat is music.

This disc presents music from the nineteenth century up to the end of the twentieth, none of which requires instruments to be ‘plugged in’. It shows the inventiveness and vibrancy of musicians and composers in absorbing styles from overseas before incorporating them into something now instantly recognisable as Brazilian. The jazz movement influenced styles too, and in the 1950s freer aspects of jazz, like the bossa-nova, took musical form away from the choro. But it remains today as an authentic Brazilian form, along with the frevo, forró, samba, and bossa-nova included on this disc.
