About

Jacob van Eyck (1590-1657) was one of the most remarkable figures of Dutch musical life during the “Golden Age”. He was a carilloneur and also the greatest campanological expert of his time. He became immortalized as a composer thanks to his “Der Fluyten Lust-hof”, a large collection of solo compositions for soprano recorder, an instrument that he himself had mastered with great skill.

The two instruments, carillon and recorder are brought together here by Arie Abbenes and Saskia Coolen. The recording - with the exception of the works for solo recorder – was made in the Domtoren in Utrecht, where van Eyck himself had rung the bells for over thirty years.

World premiere recording.
