About

This latest new release from CPO pairs the French composer Jean Francaix with a member of the international oboe elite and his long-time supporter, oboist Lajos Lencsés: “a player of great technical fluency and style. His tone is clear and penetrating….[and] beautifully controlled”. Gramophone

Françaix dedicated himself to all the musical genres, but he is best known for his instrumental and chamber works. On the present recording we hear the entertaining Trio for Oboe, Bassoon, and Piano, the Quartet for English Horn and Strings, and the clearly structured, pleasurable, and highly virtuosic String Quartet in G with the Parisii Quartet. The composer always challenged his interpreters with the highest technical demands.

The CD program is complemented by the refreshingly carefree L’Horloge de Flore (seven-part floral clock) for oboe and orchestra, one of the twentieth-century highlights in the oboe repertoire.
