About

Two legendary performances from the New York Met, now digitally refurbished and featuring Kirsten Flagstad and Bruno Walter. The first in 1941, only Walter’s second performance ever at the Met, seems at times a one man war on the forces of evil which had sent him packing from Berlin, Vienna and Paris. The second marks Walter’s return to the Met in 1951, after a five-year absence in Rudolf Bing’s first season as general manager, and also Flagstad’s controversial return after spending the war years in Norway.
