About

In the early eighteenth century, London become the capital of Italian opera. The 1720s witnessed a feverish demand for music that led many foreign virtuosos to move to the city. Concert-loving Londoners relished the last sonatas in the style of the old master Corelli and the works of the youthful newcomer Handel. On their first recording for harmonia mundi, La Rêveuse invite us to relive this lively scene.

Reviews

La Rêveuse bring us a disc of splendid music-making. If the finely phrased strings bursting with vivacity in the opening movement of William Babell’s Concerto in D somehow don’t hook you, then the second movement will stop you in your tracks. ... The theme of the disc makes for a lovely coherence between works ... There is enough variety, both timbral and affectual, to keep one in sonic rapture ... an all-round superb album.  Mark Seow
