About

On a summer night in June 2002, an enthusiastic audience of more than 20,000 gathered on Leipzig's historic Market Square while 150 musicians from all over the world - from Cuba, Norway, Poland, Britain, Syria, Germany, Bulgaria and the USA - contributed their  "spirits of music" to an extraordinary concert event uniting classical and world music.

Bobby McFerrin plays many parts, excelling in all of them. Alongside his remarkable solo improvisations he brought a charming and unconventional manner to his conducting of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, one of Germany's most renowned orchestral ensembles

British violin icon Nigel Kennedy is just as much at home with pop or jazz as he is with classical and joins McFerrin in a combined jazz improvisation which marks a highlight of the evening. Their starting point is the jazz standard All Blues from Miles Davis. Their free improvisation is bursting with brio and is full of fresh ideas.
