About

Szymon Komasa is a Polish baritone, trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and Juilliard in New York, as well as in his native country. He is known for his original attitude to songs, charisma and captivating sense of drama. As the title suggests, his debut album centres around Polish songs devoted to the greatest of all feelings: love.

Komasa’s approach to music is exceptional. He chooses to go his own way experimenting with interpretations and digs deeper into human feelings and emotions. Coming from a family with great artistic traditions in music, film, visual arts and even fashion, he has a very specific sense to collide and bind together influences from all these art disciplines. He analyses each character he plays as if it was a film role, or even more – a real person with their own story, family, life… Maybe this is what is capturing the attention of international competition juries, as he is a laureate and winner of several of them, especially appreciated for his interpretations of songs.

In 2009, he made his international opera debut as Schaunard in La bohème at the Teatro Filharmonico/Arena di Verona in Verona. He has performed recitals at Carnegie Hall and Wigmore Hall. Apart from singing roles in operas by Mozart, Bellini, Donizetti and Verdi, Komasa has also been performing in contemporary operas, such as Korine Fujiwara’s The Flood and Paweł Mykietyn’s The Magic Mountain. He also has an avid interest in cinema and enjoys calisthenics.

Szymon Komasa is accompanied on the album by Oskar Jezior, who aged 15 became the youngest student ever accepted into the University of the Arts Bremen. In 2012, he completed his course at Juilliard in New York. He won first prize at the Juilliard Piano Competition and made his debut at Lincoln Center. Jezior has performed at Carnegie Hall, The Shanghai Philharmonic Hall, The Orchard Hall Tokyo, Warsaw Philharmonic, The Palau de la Música de Barcelona, Laeiszhalle Hamburg and Schauspielhaus Berlin.
