About

The Shellac Era single LP is part of The Shellac Project suite – an exciting cooperation between Deutsche Grammophon and Google Arts & Culture – a series of digitized material from old Galvano ‘fathers’ and ‘mothers’ from the early 20th century. A selection of these rare and historic recordings is presented on this special vinyl release, including an early recording of baritone Titto Ruffo (1912); tenor Koloman von Pataky’s precious interpretation of Mozart’s “Un'aura amorosa” and composer Pietro Mascagni conducting his own famous Intermezzo sinfonico from Cavalleria Rusticana with the Staatskapelle Berlin, both recorded in 1927; a 1934 recording of Louis Armstrong; and a film song from 1936 performed by the stunning coloratura soprano Erna Sack. New liner notes in English, written by Richard Evidon.
