About

This programme explores the last years of the life of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach in performances by Mathieu Dupouy. This album is a “Choix de France Musique” and the first solo recording on the historical fortepiano from the Paris Musee de la Musique collection (Grabner 1791).

Mathieu Dupouy returns to a composer to whom he has dedicated much time throughout his career. The narrative of the album studies the links between the composer and his place in time, in particular with regard to CPE Bach, the multiple literary influences that run through his work. The album has been given the subtitle of “Sentimental Journey” in reference to the influence of Anglophilia on the current of Empfindsamkeit (“Sensitivity”) which we associate with the music of CPE Bach.

Herisson continues its collaboration with the Musee de la Musique of Paris, which had already allowed the realization of two recordings: Mozart (with Mathieu Dupouy and David Grimal: Choice of France Music, ffff Telerama, 5 Diapasons) and Schumann (with Soo Park: Choice of France Music, ffff Telerama, Forbes CD of the month).

Mathieu Dupouy studied at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSM) in the class of Christophe Rousset, where he was awarded premiers prix in harpsichord and basso continuo before going on to study in cycle de perfectionnement with Pierre Hantai and Christophe Coin. He has devoted himself to the harpsichord, clavichord and fortepiano. His repertoire extends also to contemporary music. He studied with the composer the pieces of Henri Dutilleux and Francois-Bernard Mache.
