Gurdjieff (c.1870-1949) was a Greek-Armenian mystic who was active in the early 20th century. He was widely known as a spiritual teacher with spiritual dance being an integral part of his work. He composed music to accompany his dance in close collaboration with Russian composer Thomas de Hartmann, a spiritual disciple. This work, bridges the world between classical and new age music.
Pianist Frederic Chiu has performed widely. His work includes recordings of the complete works of Prokofiev. The works of Gurdjieff have been a special pursuit of his for a number of years.
