Hanna Shybayeva (piano)

From its very beginnings, the histories of instrumental music and dance have been inextricably intertwined. The musical form of the dance suite, and of its constituent dance movements, has served as a fundamental basis of musical expression until this day. The joy of movement and dance is one of the most fundamental human needs, and it comes as no surprise that composers have worked with dance forms and dance rhythms since the early Baroque period.

The programme on this recording forms an arc that begins with the Andalusian rhythms in Scarlatti's keyboard sonatas and concludes with Nikolai Kapustin's jazz-inflected musical language. It demonstrates that dance rhythms and dance-like musical ideas never fall out of fashion becuase they are able to connect directly with the audience.

With this recording, Hanna Shybayeva takes the listener on a journey through the worlds of dance, rhythm, and a variety of musical styles in the history of the piano - and always connected with an invitation to a dance!
