About

An original but logical association of works written in 1876 for a competition organised by the Russian Musical Society: "The jury commended my sextet but ignored my quintet" the composer bemoaned. In posthumous revenge, Rimsky-Korsakov could well point out that the winner, Eduard Nápravník (1838-1916), is today known only as an excellent conductor in musical circles.

Recorded 1957 (Scheherazade), 2003 (Sextet, Quintet)
