Daniel Barenboim is an absolute musical authority, world citizen, humanist, visionary and the “last musical genius” of our time (Joachim Kaiser, Süddeutsche Zeitung). Renowned both as pianist and conductor, Barenboim serves as General Music Director of the Berlin State Opera and is conductor for life of the Berlin Staatskapelle; he previously served as Music Director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris and La Scala in Milan. He is also known for his work with the West–Eastern Divan Orchestra. Daniel Barenboim has received numerous awards and prizes, including an Honorary Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire, France's Légion d'honneur both as a Commander and Grand Officier, and the German Großes Bundesverdienstkreuz. He has won seven Grammy Awards for his work and discography.
