One might find it interesting that a boys’ church choir sings pieces that are not church music, and has chosen South American popular music. When, in the times of King Philip II, the choir was founded, the young seminarians sang as well as danced music that was comparable to that which the choir sings nowadays.

We now celebrate the so-called (in broad terms) “Hispanic” year, 2015, the 400th anniversary of the birth of Saint Teresa of Jesus, and the first edition of the second part of Don Quijote de la Mancha. The Boys’ Choir of the Escolanía del Escorial has chosen to celebrate enthusiastically with the interpretation of songs from different regions of Spain and countries of South America. Moreover we have included several works from other European countries. Most of them are of traditional folk origin – sometimes even children’s songs - with choral arrangements. We hope that those of you who listen to these songs are as enthusiastic as those who sing them and that you will be carried away musically in these times of important cultural events which are relevant to everyone.
