Unlike most of the Prague based composers who died in the Holocaust, Erwin Schulhoff (1894-1942) would not be deported to Terezin. He died in a camp in Germany. Of all the Lost Generation composers, Erwin Schulhoff is perhaps the most developed.
He was young enough to have been introduced to Dvorak, and later studied with Max Reger. The music on this disc spans the years 1911-27, by which time Schulhoff could be looking to his future with some confidence.
The Sonata for Solo Violin, two Violin Sonatas and Suite - in the form of five movements recalling French Baroque - are given brilliant performances by Latvian violinist Eka Gogichashvili.
