About

Ignace Joseph Pleyel was an Austrian-born French composer and piano builder of the Classical period. Pleyel was prolific, composing 41 symphonies, 70 string quartets and several string quintets and operas. Pleyel moved to Paris in 1795 and later became a music publisher and manufacturer of pianos.

Johann Baptist Vanhal was an important Czech composer of the Classical period. Wanhal had to be a prolific writer to meet the demands made upon him, and attributed to him are 100 quartets, at least 73 symphonies, 95 sacred works, and a large number of instrumental and vocal works.

With his sensitive and expressive playing the Swiss violinist Sebastian Bohren, born 1987, ranks among the promising talents of his generation. His solo appearances include the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Munich Residenz, the Tonhalle Zurich and the KKL Lucerne. He worked with conductors such as Heinrich Schiff, Muhai Tang, Patrick Lange and Nicolae Moldoveanu.

Sebastian Bohren plays an outstanding instrument by Antonio Stradivari (King George 1710), generously loaned by the Habisreutinger Foundation.

Born in Lugano in 1988, Luca Bizzozero studied horn and music theory before studying musicology at the Geneva University, theory at the Haute Ecole de Musique in Geneva, and orchestral conducting at the Ecole Normale de Paris. He studied with conductors such as Gianluigi Gelmetti, Peter Gülke and Richard Barker. Luca worked with orchestras such as the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow City Symphony 'Russian Philharmonic', San Remo Orchestra, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana and many others.

Founded in October 1966, in forty years of activity Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto has established itself as one of the principal Italian chamber orchestras with an optimum reputation both at home and abroad. The composition of the Orchestra is based on the complement of the classic symphony orchestra. The eminent mozartian Peter Maag was principal conductor of the Orchestra from 1983 to 2001. Artistic Directors have been, in succession, Claudio Scimone, Bruno Giuranna, Guido Turchi, Mario Brunello (Music Director, 2002-2003), Filippo Juvarra (who was awarded the 'Franco Abbiati' Italian Music Critics Prize in 2002). Since 2014 Clive Britton has been Artistic Director of the Orchestra.
