About

A 'bouquet of forgotten flowers' is not just a bunch of flowers. A bouquet requires careful thought and judicious selection. But how can you select something that has been forgotten? No, it merely seems as if these flowers had been forgotten. They haven’t, and this CD presents them to the listener, as a delightful bouquet.

If we attempt to classify the Flemish composers on this CD, we can count Lodewijk Mortelmans (1868–1952) as a member of the generation of Paul Gilson, a generation which attached itself to the 'international' styles that were late romanticism and impressionism.

Henry-Georges D’Hoedt (1885–1936) is of the generation of Arthur Meulemans and Karel Candael. Their style hovers between a continuation of the romantic tradition and the nascent modernism of the 20th century. Georges Lonque (1900–1967) and Prosper van Eechaute (1904–1964) can be found under the heading ‘eclecticism’, whose leaders were Marinus de Jong (1891–1984) and Flor Peeters (1903–1986).
