ArtistsMattia Zappa (cello)
Massimiliano Mainolfi (piano)
The three Russian cello sonatas on this CD offer three strikingly different takes on the genre – all, however, stemming from the tradition of what can be called Soviet neoclassicism.
Mattia Zappa was born 1973 in Locarno (Switzerland). The Swiss cellist pursued his musical studies in the soloist's class of Harvey Shapiro at the renowned Juilliard School in New York. He performs numerous duo recitals together with the Italian pianist Massimiliano Mainolfi, with whom he gave his Carnegie Hall debut in March 2001.
