The solemn start to the Mozart bicentenary celebrations, the re-opening of La Piccola Scala and the operatic debut at La Scala for a 36-year-old Guido Cantelli, Toscanini’s protégé and announced music conductor of La Scala, who also wanted to direct the show.
The Cosě fan tutte performance staged on the 27th of January 1956 was a unique artistic event that was to become a legend. The images and music from that evening speak clearly: it was a historical moment.
