About

AME 1001 is devoted to recordings by the legendary violinist Gioconda de Vito (1907 – 1994).

De Vito’s LPs and 78s are highly sought world-wide by collectors, some of the rarest titles selling for up to £2500.

De Vito is soloist in two concertos by Johannes Brahms, composed for the great nineteenth century violinist Joseph Joachim.

De Vito is accompanied in the Double Concerto by Amedeo Baldovino (1916 – 1998) in a recording made shortly after a legendary concert in London.  Baldovino was a mainstay at the famous Trio di Trieste for many years and taught alongside de Vito at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome.

The Philharmonia Orchestra was founded by Walter Legge in 1945 and at the time of these recordings (1952 – 53) it boasted some of the world’s leading soloists including Dennis Brain (horn), Gareth Morris (flute), Frederick Thurston (clarinet) and Sidney Sutcliffe (oboe) and Manoug Parikian (violin).
