The musicians of a fanfare band are often reminded of the legendary Dutch movie picture 'Fanfare', made by Bert Haanstra in 1958, showing all clichés about the fanfare band phenomenon. If the movie is still worth watching, the comparison with the contemporary fanfare band is no longer relevant. The actual modern fanfare band has got its own place within the wind band music world. The fanfare band conductor has become a well trained and most talented professional and the members are also skilled musicians.
 
The World Music Kerkrade is the pre-eminent scene to perform new compositions. The ‘greatest’ scene for this kind of band stirs many ambitious fanfare bands - twenty-eight Dutch and Belgian fanfare bands came to Kerkrade in 2013.
