In 2012 the Coventry Cathedral 4-manual Harrison reached the ripe old age of 50. Prelude Records recorded it with the Cathedral’s Director of Music, Kerry Beaumont, during three evening sessions to celebrate the event. The programme of major organ works perfectly demonstrates the versatility of the instrument.

The organ sounds as magnificent as on the day it was completed, apart from the addition of a few ‘clonks’ and wheezes from the sound boards and stop motors, which most people seem to complain about when they reach that age!

This is a fully digital recording using 8 Neumann microphones, perfectly positioned thanks to the cathedral’s complex winching system and wonderful co-operation.

Kerry Beaumont, Director of Music of the cathedral since 2006, wrote, “This is the best recording I have ever heard of the Coventry Organ. . . I love this organ, and when I here your recording, I love it even more!”
