About

A generous and unusual pairing of these Beethoven concertos with 'King David' at his best, playing his Stradivarius 'Comte de Fontana'.

The Violin Concerto Op.61 with André Cluytens remains his finest, and the legendary trio he formed with Lev Oborin and Svjatoslav Knuschevitzky outperforms his last meeting with Richter and Rostropovich. The Philharmonia in the Walter Legge era supports with a chamber music-like purity rarely reached since.

During the years 1941 to 1963, Lev Oborin, David Oistrakh and the cellist Sviatoslav Knushevitsky played as a piano trio, achieving international fame. Khachaturian's three concertos, one each for piano, violin and cello, were written for the individual members of this trio.
