ArtistsMarek Szlezer (piano)
Krzysztof Meyer's early works reflect the times in which they were composed and his compositions reveal the influence of Bartok who, in the Poland of the 1950s, was considered synonymous with modernity.
The parallel triads at the end of Sonata No.1 are reminiscent of the ending of Bartok's String Quartet No.6 and sound like a homage to the Hungarian composer. The later three sonatas illustrate the new trend towards sonorism which grew and matured in the 1960s. The recording opens with nine miniatures written when he was an 18 year old student in Krakow.
Pianist Marek Szlezer has performed with leading orchestra, including the English Chamber Orchestra, and at such venues as the Wigmore Hall and Palais des Beaux Arts. At present he is concentrating on the music of Polish composers.
