About

Larry Goves is a composer based in the UK. He performs live electronics in a variety of contexts, in particular with his experimental group 'The house of bedlam'.

Larry Goves studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with Anthony Gilbert and at Southampton University with Michael Finnissy. In 2011 he was shortlisted for a Royal Philharmonic Prize in composition and was a recipient of a Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award. He currently teaches composition at the Royal Northern College of Music and for the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.

Goves explains that Things that are blue, things that are white and things that are black is "my notion of a romantic piano concerto seen through the twisted lens of Paul Austerís surreal gumshoe landscape ('The New York Trilogy')". Written for Sarah Nicolls, it is scored for solo piano, electric piano (triggering pre-prepared samples), prepared piano, at least 16 violins, various wind instruments, electronic sounds and live processing.

Terminus Wreck is a solo cello piece written for Goves' long-time collaborator Oliver Coates and Trends in personal relationships, performed by London Sinfonietta under Martyn Brabbins, is a response to modern life, relationships and internet dating.
