Following their extraordinary debut at the Proms in 2009, John Wilson and his hand-picked orchestra returned to the Royal Albert Hall in 2010 to give a programme of Broadway hits penned by the great creative partnership of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, including excerpts from Oklahoma!, Carousel, The King and I and The Sound of Music.

EMI has recorded a glorious collection of these ground-breaking scores, conducted by Wilson, and he and his orchestra are joined by the soloists Sierra Boggess, Julian Ovenden, Anna-Jane Casey, Joyce Di Donato and David Pittsinger, and the Maida Vale Singers

The music of Rodgers, Gershwin, Berlin, Porter, Kern and their contemporaries, central to 20th-century American popular culture, is rightly recognised today as an incredible artistic legacy. These composers expected their work to be played with impeccable style and profound understanding by the world's best musicians.

The John Wilson Orchestra specialises in recording contemporary film sound tracks and authentic concert performances of classic film musical scores. Outside of the concert hall the orchestra has contributed to sound track recordings for films including ‘The Gathering Storm’, and in 2007 was nominated for a Grammy Award for ‘Best Soundtrack’ for ‘Beyond the Sea’ starring Kevin Spacey as Bobby Darrin.
