About

The American Michael Rabin (1936-1972) was one of the greatest virtuoso violinists in the post-War period, but his career was tragically short by an early death aged 36 years old caused by a fall in his apartment.
All the works represented in this collection require tremendous technical ability ranging from Wieniawski’s Concerto No. 2 (a favourite of Heifetz), and the ever popular Paganini Concerto No. 1, to the seductive melodies of the Saint-Saens, ending with the fiery Zigeunerweisen and the two short encores.
This CD represents a wonderful cross-section and anthology of Rabin’s finest work, a great artist who these days has largely been forgotten except by knowledgeable collectors and by every violinist working today.
