About

This Portrait of the Artist edition celebrates Narciso Yepes, one of the greatest guitarists of the 20th century, who recorded exclusively for Deutsche Grammophon from the late Sixties until the end of the 1980s. He made nearly 30 LP and CDs for the company.

The compilation includes three of the most famous and popular guitar concertos - by Rodrigo (Aranjuez), Mauro Giuliani and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco - plus a wide-ranging selection of solo recordings, from the time of the Renaissance to the 20th century.

Many Spanish favourites are included, as are Bach and selections from Scarlatti. Rarities include a striking "Polish" Partita by Telemann, for two guitars (with Godelieve Monden) and Fernando Sor's evocative Fantaisie Villageoise - both appearing on CD for the first time.

The accompanying booklet is in the best Portrait of the Artist style with a wide selection of photos, some of them from the Yepes family collection.

Accompanying Artists:

Rodrigo - Concierto de Aranjuez
Philharmonia Orchestra / Garcia Navarro

Castelnuovo-Tedesco - Concerto no. 1 for guitar and orchestra in D major, op. 99
London Symphony Orchestra / García Navarro

Telemann - Partita Polonaise in A major for two guitars
