About

Considering the conditions under which Ravel composed his Trio, one can only marvel at its perfection and apparently unruffled equilibrium, with the possible exception of the last movement which shows some signs of nervous tension. But this is only another example of Ravel's determination to keep his music uncontaminated by the infiltration of personal feelings.

Brahms wrote his Clarinet Quintet in 1891 inspired by his close friendship with Richard Mühlfeld (1856– 1907), one of the greatest clarinetists of his time. This relationship also led Brahms to compose his last cycle of chamber works, the Clarinet Trio, Op. 114 and the two Sonatas, Op. 120.
