About

The endless capabilities of the saxophone are heard to full effect in this wide-ranging programme of virtuoso works by 20th century Greek composers, which here receive their world première recording, played by the distinguished Greek saxophonist Theodore Kerkezos.

Highlights include Mikis Theodorakis’ deeply felt Adagio written in 1992 for the victims of the Bosnian war, and his Concertino inspired by the island of Crete; Nikos Skalkottas’ rhythmically dynamic and yet lyrical Concertino; Vassilis Tenidis’ folk inspired Rhapsody and Oscar-winner Manos Hadjidakis’s Mr Knoll.

Theodore Kerkezos is a world class saxophonist: he received the Papaionnou award in 1992 and 1993, and has performed all existing classical repertoire for saxophone and orchestra, appearing with major orchestras throughout Europe.
