About

Bernard Henrik Crusell was born in Finland in 1775. At an early age he moved to Sweden, where he stayed for the rest of his life. As a teenager he got a clarinet (in that time a quite “young” instrument) which made him decide to become a musician - above all, a clarinettist. He wrote chamber music works for the clarinet and 3 solo concertos, which are still on the repertoire. They are delightful works full of sparkling virtuosity and melodic lines, written in early-romantic style (comparable with Spohr, Hummel and Schubert).

Emma Johnson is one of the world’s leading clarinetists, and she plays these works with abundant zest and wit. Henk de Graaf is the principal clarinet of the reknown Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.

This is the first ever coupling of the clarinet quartets and clarinet concertos.
