Musical Instruments: A Musical Memory Game

The 'Memory' game is a popular family game called 'Memory', 'Concentration' or 'Pairs' in English. It is based on pairs of playing cards laid face down on a table and in turn, each player chooses two cards and flips them face up over, to show the picture on them. The object of the game is to turn over pairs of matching cards: if the player finds a pair, they can take the cards. If not, the cards are turned face down again. The winner is the player who has found the highest number of pairs when there are no cards left on the table. It can be played with any number of players or as solitaire. Suitable for children from 4 years upwards, it can be used as an educational tool.

Discovering the instruments

This Musical Memory Game is designed to lead children through the instruments of classical music. 30 instruments are illustrated by a painting, a musical piece and a short text explaining the instrument, the picture and the music in French, English, German and Spanish

The contents of the box

The cards show a detail from the paintings, zooming on the instrument. The game can be played like any normal memory-game, without the CD. Children learn to recognise the instruments and remember their names.

The booklet (c 70 pages) shows, for each card the paintings, with information (painter, dates…); the short text in different languages.

The CD is a compilation of 30 pieces illustrating the sound of each instrument, so that children, listening to it, learn to recognise their specific sound.

With the cards and the CD, a second game can be played, based on the recognition of the instruments in the music pieces.
