THE ART OF DIMITRI MITROPOULOS, VOL. 1 OF 2: BROADCAST PERFORMANCES, 1941-1957
Dimitris Mitropoulos, known in the West as Dimitri Mitropoulos, was a Greek conductor, pianist, and composer who spent most of his career in the United States. He was best known for conducting contemporary 20th century music, and his near-perfect photographic memory allowed him to conduct often without a score. This 4 CD collection gives an interesting and varied tour of Mitropoulous’s work during the fourties and fifties. Features the Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra alongside some wonderful soloists.
