More Details on Hans-Joachim Hespos / Oskar Schlemmer - Triadic Ballet
Premiered in 1922, this work by the painter, sculptor and theatre experimenter Oskar Schlemmer has acquired a legendary reputation.
Schlemmer’s commitment to the reformation of the theatre demonstrated itself between 1916 and 1922 in his “Triadic Ballet”, then - at the equally legendary “Bauhaus” in Weimar and Dessau - in the performances brought to the stage there.
The impact of the Triadic Ballet was felt not so much by dancers or theatre people but far more by those whom Schlemmer described as “people with eyes” - painters, architects, sculptors, fashion designers - and so it is rightly associated with performance art.
Schlemmer’s wish was that contemporary music should accompany the Triadic Ballet, and so the present-day composer Hans-Joachim Hespos was selected for the new version.
A copiously illustrated booklet is included.
