About

Iris Oja here lends her incredible voice to the soul of two major composers of 20th-century Russia, swept along by their friendships and their loves, their assertions of national identity, their feeling for politics and their respect for folk traditions.

Iris Oja studied singing at the Estonian Academy of Music, obtaining a bachelor's degree in 2003. The same year, she won the Singer's Contest in Tallinn and later participated in Master Classes with Rudolf Piernay, Ellen Hargis and Bodil Øland. Since 2000 she has been alto soloist and section leader of the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, in which capacity she has sung a wide range of repertoire.

Originally inspired by the playing of Gerald Moore, Roger Vignoles decided on leaving university to embark on a career as a piano accompanist and completed his training with Paul Hamburger. Among his first partners was the soprano Elisabeth Söderström, whom he accompanied throughout the 1970s and '80s, as well as Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Sir Thomas Allen and Sarah Walker. More recently, he has accompanied the tours and recitals of such diverse personalities as Dame Felicity Lott, Susan Graham, Véronique Gens, Olaf Bär, Thomas Hampson and the late Lorraine Hunt.
