About

This is a portrait of the American-Norwegian violinist Camilla Wicks who was born in 1928. She made her first performances in Norway in 1947 and today is well known all over the world both as an outstanding performer and teacher. The present release contains material spanning her entire career, all radio recordings appearing on CD for the first time.

For almost three generations, Camilla Wicks has been known among musicians and audiences all over the world. She studied with Louis Persinger at Julliard and made her debut in New York Town Hall when only 13 years old. She went on to perform with such orchestras as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony and New York Philharmonic. She has held teaching positions at University of Michigan, Rice University and Eastman School.

Wicks returned to Oslo as a professor of violin in the 1970. During the two years she taught at the then newly formed Norwegian Academy of Music, she developed a strong attachment to the musical community of the country through concerts and master classes. Many of today’s most prominent Norwegian violinists, including Henning Kraggerud and Stefan Barratt-Due, are among her former students.

The CD contains material spanning her entire career, and includes Glazunov’s Violin Concerto and the ever-popular “Lark Ascending” by Vaughan Williams.
