This major work by Sigurd Islandsmoen (apparently his first entry in the CD catalogue) was widely performed throughout the 1940s and 1950s, both in his native Norway and abroad, but has since done a disappearing act - reminiscent of the Requiem by John Foulds, which is only now being revived after nearly 80 years. It is easy to understand its former popularity, and this brand-new SACD makes a convincing case for its revival.
