More Details on Prokofiev - Romeo and Juliet
This revival of the classically choreographed version of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet by senior choreographer Kenneth MacMillan enjoyed a phenomenal success at La Scala in January 2000. Hailed by the Italian press as the “new star couple”, Ferri and Corella both brought to their roles the youthfulness and innocence reflected in Prokofiev’s music.
Romeo is one of the favourite roles of the Spanish dancer Angel Corella, and, indeed, the part of the fiery young man seems tailor-made for him. He combines virtuoso technique with well-defined performance qualities, and it is easy to believe his assertion that he loves being an actor as much as he loves being a dancer. “Mr. Corella….gracefully negotiated the shifts in Romeo's mood and resolution throughout Act II; there was logic and proportion to his character development and expression.” www.ballet.co.uk on a live performance of the work
“Alessandra Ferri….a ballerina whose career enhanced lives with a bold spell of earthy, Italian passion. For years characters like Giselle, Manon and Juliet — reborn in Ms. Ferri’s vivid imagination — have transcended the stage to become flesh and blood.” The New York Times
