About

Vocal ensemble Stile antico makes its harmonia mundi début with a programme of 16th and 17th century polyphony by Tallis, Byrd, Sheppard and Hugh Aston, music written for and inspired by the last monastic office of the day - the service of Compline.

Stile Antico is a British early music vocal ensemble of twelve young singers, fast emerging as one of the most exciting groups of its kind. In 2005 the group took part in the Early Music Network International Young Artists' Competition, where they won the Audience Prize, generously endowed by the Friends of York Early Music Festival. Critics praised their 'wonderfully vivid singing' and their 'perfectly focused and ideally balanced voices'. Their performance was later broadcast on BBC Radio 3's The Early Music Show. As a result of their success, Stile Antico was invited to record for harmonia mundi.

Stile Antico brings an innovative chamber-music approach to the choral medium. The group works without a conductor, enhancing communication amongst the performers and with their audiences. Their repertoire ranges from the glorious legacy of the English Tudor composers to the Flemish and Spanish schools and the works of the early Baroque.
