About

The Labèque Way follows the unique pianists as they trace their Spanish roots playing Ravel ́s Boléro accompanied by Basque percussion, premiering a daring new concert they had commissioned, and taking part in the most diverse artistic and personal adventures. Featuring friends and collaborators such as Sir Simon Rattle and Semyon Bychkov among others, the film includes amazing performances of pieces by Mozart, Schubert, Ravel, Albéniz, Golijov and Gershwin. Take a look behind the curtains of the peculiar relationship between the siblings, renowned for their ensemble of synchronicity and energy, on both professional and personal levels.

Part classical, part avant-garde, part flamenco, the legendary piano duo Katia and Marielle Labèque are almost impossible to label – and have a great fanbase all over the world!

The documentary The Labèque Way is based on a personal letter, written by the Italian Author Alessandro Barrico (Silk, Ocean Sea) to Katia and Marielle Labèque, directed by Félix Cábez.

Bonus: Full performances of Francis Poulenc: Concerto for 2 pianos & orchestra in D minor and Camille Saint-Saëns: Carnival of the animals for 2 pianos & orchestra, with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and Sir Simon Rattle.

“The best piano duo in front of an audience today”  - New York Times

“When I sit with Marielle in front of the piano, I always feel something gripping my heart as soon as we play the first notes. It is very important to me and I think it has got to do with being always amazed towards life [...].”  - Katia Labèque
